Like many of you, we found our tables pretty empty in the Spring of 2020. In April of last year, we were trying to grapple with ever changing information about the COVID-19 virus while trying to understand what the new normal was going to look like.
On April 3, 2020, Erin and I started Friday Night Fight. This was our way of trying to cope with missing our friends and extended family that usually spent time at our tables on the weekends. We wanted to bring one of our favorite games, Unmatched, and introduce it to people who have never seen it before.
Our first stream was a little rocky with some missteps on card rules and a very shaky camera. But as the months went on, things smoothed out and a community grew around us. When we skipped a couple Friday’s in October, we heard about it. People would message us and even comment on other game content with “Where’s Friday Night Fight?”
When we realized that some of our fights had thousands of views, we knew we had to keep this weekly event on our calendar.
One Year Later
It’s been 1-year and it’s hard to believe how quickly it passed. We’ve played a lot of Unmatched and we actually love the game more than when we started. Our YouTube subscriber base has grown primarily because of this weekly stream. We’ve heard from viewers from Australia, Costa Rica, Scotland, Poland, Canada and loads of other countries around the world. We’ve lost count at the number of times that a viewer messaged us to say they found our videos over the past 12 months and immediately bought 1 or more Unmatched sets.
Friday Night Fight is one of the best things to come out of this past year. Thank you to everyone who has watched, liked, shared, commented or engaged with us through this stream.
