We seem to be in the middle of a Sherlock Holmes craze in pop culture. I mean, think about the last time that a bunch of people said they had to get home and watch PBS! But that’s what will be happening this Sunday night as the fourth season of the wildly popular Sherlock wraps up. Then there’s the Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law movies (which you may have already forgotten about). And who could forget Elementary, now on its fifth season? Plus that Mr. Holmes movie that came out a few years ago with Magneto. And that’s just in the past 10 years. There have been so many people that have portrayed the famous detective, with or without the deerstalker.
Sherlock hasn’t just confined himself to books, TV, and movies, though. There are several great games that center around Mr. Holmes. I want to talk about my personal favorite – and one that’s definitely in my top 5 games.
Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective isn’t your standard board game. There’s not really dice, cards, or even a board. Instead, it’s like a ‘choose your own adventure’ book grew up into an adult. You’ll quickly dive into one of the game’s 10 cases and feel like you’re conducting a real investigation, pressed for time and resources. All the while, you’re competing against Sherlock himself, hoping to be just as successful in your deduction as the master.
