Even though Erin and I published a Spooky Games video earlier this month on our YouTube channel, it’s tough not to make ANOTHER list of games we love to play at Halloween. In this post, I’ve got games for families and group gatherings that happen during the Halloween season. These are just a couple that we’re enjoying this year and we’d love to hear what you’re playing. Be sure to share your favorite board games to play during Halloween in the comments below.

Since John Carpenter’s “The Thing” is one of my favorite horror movies of all time, I had to check out this new release from Smirk & Dagger Games. This Game is Killer: Frozen Horror puts up to 10 players into a research base where someone at the table is out to kill everyone else. Players are given an identity card with one player being secretly labeled “The Horror”.
Players are playing both the cards they are given in order to defend, close off areas of the map, and move to safety. This is a fast-paced hidden identity game that plays out in some wild ways. The humans just want to stay alive while The Horror just wants to be in a room with as many people as possible. The game plays up to 10 players and is a fantastic pick for a Halloween game night or a cold night indoors.
This Game is Killer: Frozen Horror is available at your local game store, on the Smirk & Dagger webstore, or through Amazon today.
Cryptid Cafe: The Chef’s Apprentice
Publisher: Squatchy Games
Number of Players: 2-4
Playtime: 30 to 45 minutes
Kid-friendly? Yes
Full Review of The Chef’s Apprentice
In this follow up to Cryptid Cafe, players are plating dishes, prepping food and looking to earn the role as the apprentice to the Kraken chef. The illustration style and table presence immediately draws people in. Players will plate two dishes each round into a four-by-four grid.

Customers can be picky, so you may have to modify the dishes flavor profile or even the temperature. You’ll score points based on the plating patterns of the customer cards along with requests from the chef. The Chef’s Apprentice is a light tableau building game that is a great fit for a family game night or casual get together. With a Halloween expansion available, it’s even more fitting for this season.
Cryptid Cafe: The Chef’s Apprentice is available at your local game store, or online through the Squatchy Games webstore.
Immortal
Publisher: Trick of Treat Studios
Number of Players: 2-6
Playtime: 45-60 minutes
Kid-friendly? Yes
If you’re looking for a good abstract game with a dark theme, Immortal is a game you need to check out. From the game designing duo of Wolfgang Kramer and Michael Kiesling, this game has players placing flowers in a graveyard. Placing files in a single row or column, based on color or number on the tiles in their supply.

Immortal is going to feel reminiscent of the game Qwirkle but with a unique mechanic that allows players to rearrange the flowers on the board. Players are trying to place as many tiles as they can, earning bonuses for emptying their hand of tiles. If you’re the first one to place all your flowers, you’re the winner. Immortal is a strategic puzzle game with a theme that is just right for the spooky season.
Immortal is available at your local game store, the Trick or Treat webstore, or through Amazon today.
Tea Witches
Publisher: The OP
Number of Players: 2-4
Playtime: 60-90 minutes
Kid-friendly? Teens and above
Players are running magical tea huts in this fantasy worker placement game from the team who brought us Flamecraft back in 2022. Witches are lining up to taste the latest creations as you compete over the course of four days during the Teaquinox Faire. Each player will build out their custom tea hut, and press their luck as customers line up each day.

Tea Witches is a really beautiful game that is deceptive in its depth. This game has style, charm, and is complex enough to engage players who are looking for a challenge. If you’re looking for a less macabre game for your Halloween game night, Tea Witches is a fantastic choice.
Tea Witches is available at your local game store or available online through Amazon today.
Halloween II
Publisher: Trick or Treat Studios
Number of Players: 2-4
Playtime: Around an hour
Kid-friendly? Teens and above
Full Review of Halloween II
Michael Myers is back to stalk down teenagers and find Laurie Strode in this sequel to Halloween which was released in 2023. Set in the hospital from the 1981 movie, this game has players searching for Laurie and keys to the two vehicles that are on the property. Like the first game, this is a hidden movement game where one player is Michael Myers and everyone else is working as a team to escape.
The game keeps the same tension as its predecessor with a new setting and a minor twist in the gameplay. The Michael character can now attack the Laurie NPC in order to win the game and frustrate the other players. If you were a fan of Halloween, this might be a great addition to your Halloween game night.
Halloween II is available at your local game store or through Amazon today.
